Acupuncture For Weight Loss

Acupuncture For Weight Loss

Acupuncture for weight loss, does it work? In modern society and specifically modern American society, there are an alarming amount of us who are overweight and out of shape. Now when I suggest that acupuncture can help with weight loss I want to highlight the word “help.” At the end of the day, there is no substitute for eating a healthy diet and working out. However, there are ways to supplement those practices to accelerate results and acupuncture seems to be one of them.

Acupuncture works by inserting needles into important nerve zones that help release endorphins and clear energy blockages. Before we get started, I always speak with my patients to understand what their end goals are which alters the way I will administer treatments. More specifically, if you are looking to lose weight I will ask questions about diet, exercise, etc. and then explain how acupuncture will help with this process.

I will also look at your tongue to identify any cracks, peelings, or puffiness which give me clues as to what is going on with your digestive system. Once the root of the issue is diagnosed, I will then begin to insert the needles into specific points. These points may change as we move forward, or they may stay the same. It really depends on what I am seeing before the treatment and the answers the patient gives to my questions.

“If the goal is to drop weight in the lower body, I will use a multi-targeted method to needle placement. The goal will be to increase the productivity of the pituitary gland. The needles will be left in for thirty minutes and will help your energy centers more freely move energy from one center to another.”

Electroacupuncture may also be recommended to further increase the treatment’s effectiveness. This will hasten the release of endorphins and help jump-start your metabolism.

Patients can expect fewer food cravings and decreased hunger. Some studies even propose you will see lower insulin levels or lipid levels in the blood. Unlike many diet pills, acupuncture has no harmful side effects! The amount of treatments depends on the patient and their goals. I will let you know what type of regiment is recommended based on your input.
